Welcome to Playa Guasacate, Nicaragua, home of the world famous Popoyo Surf Lodge. We are located in the heart of the Southern Pacific Coast of Nicaragua, which is an area richly blessed with numerous surf breaks, consistent offshore winds and golden Pacific sunsets.

We are a one of a kind Surf Lodge in southern Nicaragua, along some of the world’s most pristine and virgin coastline. As the premiere surf establishment in the country, our mission is to provide you with a surfing experience unique to any other.

Your hosts JJ & Kimberly Yemma pioneered the first "surf camp" in all of Nicaragua. JJ first started visiting Nicaragua in 1996 and the Popoyo Surf Lodge started taking guests in 1999.

We have had the pleasure of seeing many changes and progress in our facility and in the local community. Countless surfers, families and outdoor lovers have fallen in love with the area of Las Salinas and Popoyo during their visit. Many of our guests have chosen to purchase property in our development to join us in creating Nicaragua's first surfing community.

A lot of Nicaragua’s publicity over the past few years has been due to the popularity and success of the Popoyo Surf Lodge. Transworld Surf, Surfer Magazine, Surfing Magazine, Surfers Journal, the Miami Herald, and even The New York Times have all featured articles and photos about Nicaragua, J.J. Yemma, and the Popoyo Surf Lodge.

In fact, in May of 2005, The New York Times quotes:
“ Perhaps the most influential person in the development of Popoyo is J.J. Yemma, a 28-year-old entrepreneur from Florida with the copper-streaked hair and languid movements of a longtime surfer. J.J. arrived here in 1996 and operates Popoyo Surf Lodge, one of several all-inclusive surf camps that have sprung up in Nicaragua in recent years. Over the winter he added a couple of bungalows and a swimming pool to his compound and dozens of irrigated saplings are taking root in the brown earth. ”

With two boats, a fleet of 4x4 trucks and daily surf reports via our satellite internet system, we have a proven track record of getting our guests to the best waves possible everyday of their trip.
